A solid model is a 3D representation of a solid object which is created and viewed using varying forms of CAD software.
A solid model allows a user to view a part in its entirety from a virtual perspective, making the design unambiguous, i.e. there can be no misinterpretation of the design as there is clarity and certainty over all design aspects of the object. This is because the design can be viewed as if in reality.
There are many useful advantages of solid models, especially when used in conjunction with pre-production testing, assembly, automation and manufacturing software.
Most manufacturing companies like to have access to a solid model of the component that they are being asked to produce, especially for more complicated designs.
Geometry can be pulled straight from the model. This minimises programming errors. Non-conformance of complex curvatures are also eradicated.
Order acceptance to production can be much quicker as data can be generated directly from the model and doesn't need to be manually created.
Missing dimensions can be found instantly, ensuring products are correct throughout production, especially when not at the final manufacturing stage.
Drawings can easily be misinterpreted. 3D models are unequivocal and common problems such as incorrect projection angles are eliminated.
Software functionality like this can show a visual comparison between a machining simulation and the finished model. This will show remaining stock and gouges, which can then be rectified before production has even commenced.
As there is less programming required, the potential for cost savings is substantial. This also allows suppliers to estimate cycle times more accurately which helps with quotation, particularly for more intricate designs.
We can review a model to a drawing to ensure there are no discrepancies. We can also verify that your model is complete with no validity issues, which may cause data loss and import/export complications.
You can be assured that the model we create will be correct to drawing and in a format that is widely accepted by software providers. We can also embed the model as an extractable file within a digital drawing (PDF).
If you have a compatible device we can export your model or assembly and send it to you. From this, you will be able to see your document to scale, be this on your desk, in your workshop or when visiting customers.
