Common Issues Affecting Drawings
Legacy drawings are often scans of physical copies which may have been hand drawn decades ago. These can be blurry at best and may have numerous errors and legibility issues leading to an elongated procurement time and/or non-conformance of the part.
Dimensions missing from drawings can often be picked up before manufacturing commences but it still results in unnecessary delays and loss of revenue, especially if manufacturing has already begun as operations may need to be halted, resulting in equipment sat idle whilst awaiting missing information.
Given dimensions on drawings can be extremely difficult to measure, depending on where reference points originate, this increases cost per part and F.A.I.R.'s as it becomes more time consuming and specialist inspection equipment may need to be purchased.
An incorrect correction projection angle can result in a mirror image of the part being manufactured. For symmetrical designs this is not an issue but for designs where orientation is important, this can result in a repeated order, duplicating both cost and production time.
If a drawing is over toleranced or has areas of high tolerance, it can significantly increase cycle time which in turn incurs a larger cost per unit. Reducing tolerances on non-critical dimensions can be one of the key factors in reducing cycle times.
Legacy drawings in particular often contain outdated information regarding Materials, Painting, Plating, Standards, Manufacturing Processes, etc..
As technology and legislation has evolved, the result has been that many aspects of designs and their corresponding drawing have been made obsolete and superseded, often due to concerns surrounding health & safety and other factors.
Verification of drawings to ensure dimensions are referenced correctly and that standards, materials and finishes are current.
We can replicate your existing drawings in a digital format (PDF), design changes can be added and with a revision increment.
Whether creating a new bespoke template or replicating your own templates, all aspects can be tailored to suit your companies specific needs.
Drawings can be created in your preferred size and orientation.
Multi level and assembly drawings can be appraised and refreshed also.
Here are a few advantages having a solid model embedded can provide...
No missenterpration
When using a solid model, there can be no ambiguity, the design is represented in a three dimensional space and can be viewed from any orientation, making any errors entirely down to the operator.
No need for samples
Sometimes when new suppliers are asked to quote on existing designs they will ask for a sample, if of high value, samples are often hard to locate and distribute.
All information in one location
Having a model embedded into the same electronic document as your drawing can make tendering easier and help keep your files organised as they are intrinsically linked. Return time on RFQ's are expedited as suppliers have every detail available and won't need to query dimensions.
